Networking is the practice of gathering contacts and building and maintaining informal relationships to enhance personal, academic, or business opportunities. These types of relationships need continuous attention to stay connected and beneficial. When you want things from your network contacts, always ask what you can do for them.
The hidden job market holds around 80% of positions that are open. You never hear about these positions because they are filled through networking. Let your network contacts know you are looking for a job as well as what you are interested in and qualified to do. They may not know of something right away, but you may be surprised when something comes up and they remember you!
