We are excited that many IUPUI faculty and staff are using student employees in unique ways on campus. Our office is dedicated to providing support in recruiting, hiring, and supervising student employees.
We understand that each department operates differently, and we are open to offering support or feedback on student employment processing no matter the model used in your area. Without faculty and staff within these roles, students simply could not be hired or supervised. These roles are essential to student employment, and we hope to serve as a resource.
We find that most faculty and staff fall under one or more of the roles listed below:
- Supervisor—The person who oversees the work of the student employee and approves the student's time sheet each pay period.
- Assigned Department Payroll Contact—The person who submits HRMS eDocs for student employees. In some areas, this person also administers background checks and I-9 paperwork for students before hiring.
- HR Liaison or Coordinator—The person who maintains or reviews applications for an area or group of supervisors. In some areas, this person may administer background checks and I-9 paperwork or may be listed as someone who reviews time sheets after supervisors submit them each pay period.
